David Fish adds to backroom staff

With the 2023-24 season fast approaching, we’re excited to let you know that David Fish has made two additions to his backroom staff by bringing in Jonny Kyle and Phil McGrath.

Jonny Kyle joins us as a goalkeeper coach. The 31 year old, who is based in Bury, is currently a BTEC Sports Tutor and coach and was previously a goalkeeper coach at North west Counties outift Padiham FC.

Phil McGrath joins as a first team coach. Phil, 31, previously represented Oldham Athletic as a player and has accumulated plenty of coaching experience having worked in the academies at both Oldham Athletic and Stockport County as well as first team coach at recently-promoted North West Counties Premier Division side Chadderton.

On bringing in both coaches, manager David Fish told us, “To improve on last season’s finish, we need the right team on and off the pitch and these additions are as important as any of the players we’ve brought in.

“We had a number of good candidates apply and interview for the goalkeeping coach role, Jonny’s impressive track record and enthusiasm to continue to develop and learn all shone through during his interview. He also has the personality and commitment to fit in well with the whole management team.

“Last season I made the decision to not replace James Stokes, having reflected I felt that we missed an additional voice on the training ground to provide variety, allow a focus on individuals, and to give more challenge within the management team.

“I therefore approached Phil, who is an experienced coach, to join the team. Having played at a good level and coached across academies and in non-league, he will bring new perspectives, deliver high quality sessions and support the development of our players.

“I’m looking forward to working with Jonny and Phil as part of the management team and to seeing the impact they’ll both have.”

Welcome to Seel Park, Jonny and Phil!
