David Fish chooses new captain and vice-captain

Following the departures of Andy Keogh and Kane Hickman, we’re pleased to be able to tell you that David Fish has chosen his Club Captain and Vice-Captain for the 2024-25 season.

Having deputised impeccably during injuries last season, Mark Lees has been selected as Captain. Mark re-joined the club last summer and was a mainstay at the heart of our defence, showing his experience and leadership in droves as well as forging a connection with our fanbase, seeing him win our Supporter’s player of the Season award.

As vice-captain, David Fish has selected Will Shepherd. Will was a stand-out performer in our 2022-23 campaign where he played as right back. Last season saw Will move to his preferred central midfield position where he excelled until his season was cut short through injury.

On picking Mark and Will, manager David Fish told us, “Both Leesy and Shep are big characters that have the respect of other players and epitomise everything I want this squad to be. Fans will have seen that on the pitch, but they don’t see the professionalism in everything they do.

“With other senior players in the squad, like Luke Barlow, Michael Brewster and Reece Webb-Foster I feel we have a great core for the coming season.”

Congratulations to Mark and Will!
