Thompson signs for Lilywhites!
With the new season set to commence this coming Saturday, we are thrilled to tell you that experienced goalkeeper Chris Thompson has signed for the Lilywhites.
Chris (33) joins from Clitheroe FC where he played a pivotal role in helping them reach the play-off semi-finals last season. He made over 200 appearances at Shawbridge and was named in their team of the decade in 2020.
Lilywhites supporters will remember Chris for his two outstanding performances against us last season; making a string of top class saves in the 1-1 draw at Seel Park before repeating his efforts as we lost 2-1 to ‘the blues’ at Shawbridge.
Chris has also featured for Droylsden FC as well as several other clubs around the north-west.
On capturing Chris, manager David Fish told us, “The goalkeeping position has been problematic this summer. With Chris (Cheetham) deciding to retire we brought Matty (Hamnett) in and he did well in the couple of games he played; but an injury during the warm-up before the Stockport Georgians game meant we had to look for an experienced ‘keeper.
“I saw that Clitheroe had signed Hakan Burton so made an enquiry about Chris. Chris was my vote for team of the season last season and he has been superb every time we have played against him.
“He’s an exceptional addition to the squad in terms of experience, ability and temperament. Our goalkeeping department is now stronger than it’s ever been with Chris, Matty and Fin; I’m sure they will all push each other to their mutual benefit.”
Welcome to TotalRope Solutions Seel Park, Chris!
