The academy programme gives our full time students the unique chance to experience the almost perfect mix of a full time sports students life with a professional footballers life. 3 training sessions a week are simply ‘part of the timetable’ in amongst full time lessons. With 1 or 2 games a week in there as well, the life of a football academy student is hectic but gives all involved a fantastic footballing/educational experience. Places available in September 2020…

There are 25 places available in the academy squad, see our key dates section to see how you can get involved.

Entry criteria…

Students are selected from football ability and academic standards as well as these key criteria we will also assess commitment and attitude during our training camps.

Competitions played in…

The Academy play in the AOC national colleges football leagues on a Wednesday afternoon as well as the FA Youth Cup, Lancashire Cup and AOC Colleges trophy. This sees us travel as far north as the Lake District and as far south as Cheshire and Staffordshire. This gives the students the chance to pit their wits against some of the best non-league and professional football youth teams around and experience playing under floodlit conditions at night within stadiums.

Representative opportunities…

We will send outstanding players to trial for the Lancashire FA under 19 side and the North West Colleges representative sides. Excelling for these sides can lead to international call ups for England schools or Colleges Under 19 sides.

The football element of the Academy is run just like a professional football club. Players will have codes of conduct they must adhere to, covering everything from match and training clothing to on pitch conduct.
