Ten Questions with…Tom Watson
We caught up with Tom Watson last week to catch up on his time at the Lilywhites and his hopes for the future. Here’s what Tom had to say:
1. You joined on loan from Wigan and made your debut at Trafford…what was that first game like for you?
I found the Trafford game very tough.
Everything had a different feel to what I was used to with Academy football. I didnt have a good game at all but it was a good learning curve and a great experience for me.
2. How have you found the difference between playing academy football and non league football?
Its definitely different but I have enjoyed it a lot more than academy football. Theres a lot more on the line in these games and it makes winning feel ten times better. The fans are class as well, they make you enjoy the game a lot more.
3. How have you found the season as a whole, and do you think it’s helped your development?
I have really enjoyed this season. Being welcomed in the way I have here has been unbelievable and the support I have had from everyone at the club has been class. I feel it has done wonders for my development and feel myself playing in a more mature and managed way that will help loads in the next few years. of my career.
4. You’ve gained quite the highlight reel during your time here…what’s been your favourite save of the season?
l’d have to say the big spread save away at Radcliffe in the Manchester Premier cup was my favourite with the state of the game being able to make a save like that felt great.
5. Favourite game this season? Personally or as a team?
My favourite game would be the 2-1 win against Hanley at home. It was my first game back from being ill and the welcome back from the fans and everyone at the club was great. Also picking up Man of the Match that day felt great.
6. Your performances have gone noticed by most teams in the league, you’ve got to be happy with how things have gone this year?
I’m very happy with how the season has gone personally and even happier to help the team out when I’ve been called upon.
7. Kai Payne joined towards the back end of the season, how was that getting a familiar face in the dressing room?
I played with Kai in the Wigan U18s last year so having him come in felt normal but to have someone who I’ve played so many games with in the team was a nice feeling and made me feel much more comfortable in games.
8. What’s been your favourite moment whilst being here?
My favourite moment would probably be when Banni scored the 3rd against Macc. The reaction from the players and all the fans was unreal, just a shame we couldnt get anything from the game.
9. Overall, have you enjoyed your time with the Lilywhites?
I’ve loved every minute of my time here. I can’t thank the lads, the staff and the fans enough and I will definitely be coming down to some games next year.
10. Is the focus after today going back to Wigan and trying to secure first team football? Or just taking it week by week?
The focus is always to push for minutes with the first team. Wigan say they have a plan in place for me so it will just be a case of showing the gaffer what I can do and playing the best I can do for whoever it will be for.
Thanks Tom for all your efforts in a Lilywhite shirt. It’s been a pleasure to watch your development and we’re sure you have a very bright future ahead of you.
