Squad News: Devon Matthews leaves Seel Park

We can announce that Devon Matthews will be leaving Seel Park to sign for a National League North club.

Devon signed for the Lilywhites last season and became an instant fan favourite with a series of outstanding performances that caught the eye of several other clubs last year.

The young centre-back made 46 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring three goals including a magnificent solo effort in the FA Cup against Lower Breck.

Devon’s fantastic form through the season was also recognised by his peers as he won the Players’ Player of the Season award for 2021-22.

On Devon’s departure, Assistant Manager Alex Craddock told us, “We’re gutted to see Devon leave, but completely understand his reasons for doing so. He’s a great kid, with a huge amount of ability and a fantastic future ahead of him in the game. We tried our best to keep him for the upcoming season, but he felt he was given an opportunity he couldn’t turn down.

“We’re very pleased to see him progressing up to the National League North and wish him all the best. The ambition, commitment and heart he’s shown all season has earnt him this opportunity, and I know that everyone at Mossley AFC will wish him nothing but success.”
