Mossley AFC Women

It is with sadness that we announce the resignation of our Women’s team from the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League with immediate effect.

Having formed in 2019, the team were highly competitive in each league season and reached the Premier Cup Final in 2021. A number of players also progressed up the pyramid.

However, despite enjoying the use of Seel Park and significant investment in training facilities and equipment, recruiting and retaining players has proven to be difficult and the club has been left with no option.

On the decision, Manager Dame Blackshaw said “It’s extremely frustrating and we’ve done everything we can. I’d like to thank everyone at the club for making us so welcome. I’ve loved being Manager and have made some fantastic memories.”

Director Matthew Hayton said “This wasn’t an easy decision to make but it’s the correct one. We can’t continue with only a small number of players making themselves available for both matches and training.

“We’ll now take some time to think about the future of women’s football at the club. We’ve a thriving junior section and there’s nothing we want more than for local girls from Mossley to take the step up to senior women’s football at some point in the future.”

We’d like to thank Dame for his fantastic work and his backroom team of Dave Dicken, Adam Macdonald, Pete McNamara and Mike Doyle for their efforts representing Mossley AFC.
