Legend Keogh departs Seel Park

After 343 appearances, Club Legend and Hall-of-famer, Andy Keogh has left Seel Park.

Keogh made his debut for the Lilywhites in August of 2013; he would make 29 appearances, scoring 9 goals in the process, that season before moving to Nantwich in December 2013. He then returned home to Seel Park in August 2014, and remained with us until February 2017 when he transferred to Trafford FC.

After 12 months with Trafford, he returned to the Lilywhites and has been an ever-present since.

Andy amassed an incredible 343 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 68 goals; this achievement puts Andy 6th in our all-time appearances list, just 8 behind Leo Skeete. All five players above Andy appeared for the Lilywhites during the glory days of the late 70s and early 80s, a stat that reflects Andy’s dedication and loyalty to the club. Andy’s goal tally also sees him sit as the 16th top goalscorer in our history.

As well as being one of our greatest ever players, Andy also stepped into the vacant manager’s position during the 2019-20 season. He would galvanise the squad that year following a run of indifferent form, picking up the club’s first away win of the season at Clitheroe before the season was ended prematurely. He managed the first team for 5 games in total, winning 3, drawing one and losing one.

A leader on and off the pitch, Andy will always be considered a Club legend. At our recent awards night, Andy was added to the Mossley AFC ‘Hall of Fame’; an elite list of just 19 people who have had a significant impact on the history of our Club. It’s an accolade that sums up the esteem in which we as a Club hold Andy and his contributions to the Club.

On deciding to leave, Andy said, “I’d like to thank all the players and managers I’ve played with and the fans and volunteers over the last 11 years; you have made my time at the Club an absolute pleasure. To have had the privilege to captain and even manage the Club for a short time has been a proud personal achievement. Good luck for the future.”

We would like to place on record our thanks and gratitude to Andy for everything he has done for the Club, both on and off the pitch. We wish him nothing but success for the future both on and off the pitch.

He will always be welcome back at Seel Park.
