George Sievwright – 1937-2025
We’re deeply saddened to let you know of the passing of former Lilywhites player and manager, George Sievwright.
George had a playing career that saw him feature for Oldham Athletic, Tranmere Rovers and Rochdale, but it was at Macclesfield Town where he enjoyed his best spell of football, including winning the first FA Trophy final in 1970 as ‘the Silkmen’ beat Telford United.
George was appointed as Lilywhites manager in November 1972 and stayed until January 1974, taking charge 82 times, and playing twice.
We’d like to offer our heartfelt condolences to George’s family and friends at this difficult time. As a mark of respect, our flag will fly at half-mast, our players will wear black armbands and we will hold a minute’s silence in his memory.
